Meeting Minutes - ILUGC - June 2020 Meet (conducted on 13-06-2020)

Here is the summary of what happened at today’s ILUGC meet. Emacs ‘org-mode’ Around 15:00 IST, shrini started his talk about how to organize tasks using emacs ‘org-mode’. His recent introduction with emacs and how he false started to learn emacs several times using spacemacs, doom etc. He talked about how he finally found the ‘emacs-nox’ package and how he learned to use ‘emacs -nw’ to use emacs in the terminal.

Meeting minutes February 2020

Hackerspace chennai opens soon? Christoph Müller gave a talk on Hackerspaces. He described hackerspace as a community operated space where people come to make things, learn and meet people. He described a hackerspace in Switzerland called Ruum42. You can view projects made at Ruum42 at https://ruum42.ch/projekte. At Ruum42, people also conduct weekly Linux install fests called Linuxtreff which is open to all. He shared his opinion that when building a hackerspace the emphasis should not be on making a lot of rules but on building a community around it.

It was a small gathering this time. Magesh spoke about his recent experience trying to disable typographic ligatures on Xubuntu Gautham spoke about his experience with Lubuntu and how it consumed less resources and made it possible to use his old hardware Magesh addressed a question from the audience (from a IIT EEE faculty, I don’t remember his name, sorry) about VirtualBox and how it’s able to provide a way to transfer operating system between different hardware configurations.
