Here is the quick recap of what happend in the ILUGC social meet - OSM mapping party, June 06, 2026

Hi all, I’m Gopi, this blog is purely from my perspective.

At around 5:20 PM, I wasn’t sure whether the event would happen or not. Then, after 5:30 PM, Arun called me and told me that he had already arrived and was waiting for his friend Sengathir. Only then did I feel relieved that the event wasn’t going to be a flop!

We met at a juice shop and spent around 1 hours talking about everything, from our childhood memories to where we are now in life. After that, we started discussing OpenStreetMap (OSM) and why it is important.

Then we began mapping using the StreetComplete application. Arun marked trees, Sengathir marked street lights, and I marked shops along the streets. A lot of funny things happened during the mapping session.

One memorable moment was when I marked a tailor shop. Sengathir and I went inside and asked the shop owner about the opening and closing times. They looked a bit scared and asked, “Why are you asking? Who are you?” We then explained about OSM and how we were updating map information. After that, they happily shared the details with us.

Later, we went to a tea shop and spent about an hour discussing FOSS, Linux, and various personal life topics. Finally, we wrapped up the meetup by taking some photos, which you can see below.

Huu… and that’s how the day ended for me!
